Elderlies get gifts from cops

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) played Santa and distributed gifts to 72 elderly men housed inside the “Gasa sa Gugma” compound run by the Missionaries of Charity yesterday.

Senior Supt. Jose Pante, CIDG-7 chief, led his people in distributing toiletries, diapers and other personal items to the elderly men, some of whom are critically ill.

The compound in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City was founded by former Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal in 1987. The oldest patient is nearly 100 years old while the youngest is more than 50 years old.

“Tanan gikan sa Ginoo (All gifts are from God),” an Indian nun who only introduced herself as Sheila said. Sheila said they had doctors who used to visit frequently and make constant check-ups on the ailing patients.

In an interview, Pante said they chose Gasa Sa Gugma as their beneficiaries because they are considered the poorest among the poor.
