COMMERCIAL basketball at its very best will be on display today as the Cebu Basketball Association-M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Mayor’s Cup kicks off with a triple-header at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Christmas season is expected to be very competitive as six teams vie for the P100,000 cash prize that awaits the champions.
Battling in the first game will be the Rollway Customs Brokerage, which boasts of an impressive cast of veterans and youngsters in future Green Lancer Wowie Escosio, Enrico Llanto, Alano Caputolan, Eric Zanoria and Luther Justiniani, against the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology.
The second game will pit the Cesafi runners-up Southwestern University Cobras against the Asian College of Technology Cyber Knights, which have ex-pro Mark Magsumbol, Jan Villaver and Eliud Poligrates in their stead.
The final game will have current La Salle Green Archer Mark Jayven Tallo and the rest of the Three Sixty Pharmacy taking on the vaunted Ave Maria.
Teams will play a single round-robin with the top two squads at the end of that round earning for themselves a twice-to-beat advantage.
The top seed will take on the fourth seed while the second seed faces off against the third seed in the semifinals. The finals will be a best-of-three affair.
The runner-up team will bag P50,000 while the third and fourth placers go home with P30,000 and P20,000, respectively. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
