Villar asks Laguna’s elected officials to keep promises

CALAMBA CITY – Senator Cynthia Villar reminded the newly elected officials in Laguna to keep the promises they made during the campaign period and to prove to their constituents that they made the right choice.

The senator made this statement in her speech during the commemoration of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s 158th birth anniversary, where she also swore in this city’s elected local officials at the Museo ni Jose Rizal here Wednesday.

Among those sworn in were Representative Joaquin Chipeco, Jr. for the lone district of Calamba City, Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco, Second Provincial District Board Member Christian Niño Lajara, and 12 city councilors.

“To ensure that the people will continue to support and have confidence in us, we need to show them, through our programs and projects, the fulfillment of the promises we made,” Villar said.

“We also need to show our leadership, competence, abilities, and integrity most of all. Through their votes, our fellowmen gambled on our capabilities. We need to prove to them that they are right in trusting us,” she added.

Villar also said that local officials need not look elsewhere for an exemplar.

“Almost all of the traits that a leader should possess is in him—intelligent, educated, brave, respectable, and most especially his love for the country even in the face of death. Dr. Jose Rizal is a great inspiration for us all, especially for the youth. We will put to heart and live by his heroism in the service of our country,” she said.
