LUCENA CITY –– Two motorists were killed, while three others were injured in a vehicular accident along the Maharlika Highway in Gumaca town in Quezon province shortly before midnight Tuesday.
A report from the Gumaca police said a Bicol-bound Philtranco passenger bus accidentally bumped a Manila-bound aluminum wing van truck, being driven by Carmelo Gerardo Ampongan, in Barangay Lagyo around 11 p.m.
Ampongan, bus driver Mario Mansanido and three of his passengers – Nina Maldo, Gloria Camacho and Cyril Camacho – all suffered injuries and were rushed to Gumaca District Hospital at the town center.
Police reported that Ampongan and Maldo both died while undergoing treatment.
The two Camachos, whose relationship was not specified in the report, were still confined at the said hospital, but Mansanido had already been discharged.
