MANILA, Philippines — Carnapping incidents in the Philippines have decreased by 56.8 percent in May this year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
Specifically, PNP recorded 19 carnapping incidents in May 2019, compared to 44 cases recorded in the same period last year.
Zero incidents were reported in Police Regional Office (PRO) 1, 2, 4A, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13 and in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In a PNP Command Conference on Tuesday, PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde lauded the PNP Highway Patrol Group led by Brig. Gen. Roberto Fajardo for the significant reduction of car theft cases.
PNP said the decrease in carnapping incidents stemmed from HPG’s crackdown of carnapping syndicates nationwide.
Fajardo previously said that the PNP-HPG produced a matrix that would pinpoint the masterminds and financiers involved in car thefts. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
