Another village chair slain in Ecija, 2nd in as many months
TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija—A 61-year-old village official was gunned down by a still unidentified man as he rode his bicycle in front of his house here on Sunday (June 16).
Police said Arniel Bernardo, chair of Barangay San Ricardo, was on his bicycle when the assailant approached him and fired several times.
Bernardo died on the spot and became the second village official killed after the May 13 midterm elections.
On May 21, Beato Pascua, of the village of Ganadero in Palayan City, was also gunned down in front of his house.
A suspect in Pascua’s assassination had been arrested but police were still uncertain about the motive for the killing or the brains behind it. ARMAND GALANG (Editor: Tony Bergonia)
