MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) activated on Friday its task group called Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) which will go after rogue policemen.
PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said this will replace the two-year-old PNP-Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), which is the primary unit for gathering information and conducting operations for the apprehension of law enforcers involved in crime.
“I am glad to note that this is our way of institutionalizing our efforts against rogue cops and cleansing our ranks in order to fulfill our duty with all honesty, honor, and integrity,” Albayalde said in his speech at Camp Crame during the launching of IMEG.
The group will be composed of 306 uniformed personnel, 55 police commissioned officers, and 251 non-commissioned police officers, Albayalde said.
Col. Romeo Caramat Jr., former CITF chief, will become the officer-in-charge of the newly activated task group.
Lt. Col. Ariel Red was also appointed as Deputy Group Commander for Administration of the IMEG.
Seventy-two members of PNP Special Action Force will also provide tactical support to the IMEG.
Albayalde then reiterated that PNP personnel that will be assigned to the newly activated unit would undergo a background investigation and screening process.
They must also take the neuropsychiatric exam and should be graduates of an Intelligence Course or seminar. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
