Palace declares special non-working holidays in some provinces

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has declared special non-working holidays in different provinces nationwide this month to give the public opportunity to celebrate significant events in their respective areas.

Proclamation No. 732 declared June 18, Tuesday, a special non-working day in Sta. Maria, Negros Occidental to allow locals to celebrate the municipality’s founding anniversary.

Proclamation No. 735 declared June 15, Saturday, a special non-working holiday in Angeles City, Pampanga, which will remember the devastating 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption.

On June 15, 1991, Mt. Pinatubo erupted violently, sending high-speed avalanches of superheated ash, gas, and other volcanic debris down its slopes. The eruption was considered by volcanologists the second largest in the 20th century, next to the 1912 eruption of Mt. Novarupta in Alaska.
