MANILA, Philippines — Computer shops and other establishments that allow students to play online games during class hours may face closure, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, warned on Thursday.

This was after the NCRPO chief caught 12 senior high school students playing online games and using social media in a computer shop called Sandbox CyberCafe in West Rembo, Makati City.

Eleazar told reporters in an ambush interview in Makati City that these establishments are violating rules.

He said they will report the incident to the concerned local government unit (LGU).

“Sana magsilbing leksyon ito sa kanila (This should serve as a lesson). We will make proper documentation, and we will coordinate with the LGU,” Eleazar said.

Department of Education Order 86, series of 2010 bans students in public and private elementary and secondary schools from going to computer shops, malls, and theaters during class hours.

Eleazar was conducting inspections in different establishments to ensure that they were following the ordinance. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
