MANILA, Philippines—Several domestic flights to and from places affected by Tropical Storm Sendong (international codename: Washi) were cancelled Saturday, according to the Manila International Airport Authority.
As of 2 p.m., MIAA’s Media Affairs Division recorded 14 domestic flights that were cancelled.
Philippine Airlines cancelled its turn-around flight service between Manila and Dumaguete Saturday morning, citing bad weather in the area.
Cebu Pacific cancelled flights to and from Ozamis, Dumaguete and Catarman—areas which were doused by heavy showers and strong winds.
Zest Air also cancelled its turn-around flight services to and from Cagayan de Oro and Virac while waiting for weather conditions to improve.
Two flights of Air Philippines—Manila to Catarman and back—were also called off due to bad weather.
The management of each airline assured the public that all affected passengers will be accommodated on the next available flight when the service resumes.
Weather forecasters at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration earlier said Sendong was heading for the Sulu Sea and may exit Philippine territory late Sunday or early Monday.
