MANILA, Philippines — The entire Luzon Grid has been placed under yellow alert by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday, according to a statement from the Manila Electric Corporation (Meralco).
In its Twitter post, Meralco said the yellow alert will be from 10:01 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and from 1:01 p.m. up to 4:00 p.m. A yellow alert means the reserve power is low.
“The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Luzon Grid under Yellow Alert today, June 13, 2019 from 10:01 AM to 11:00 AM and from 1:01 PM to 4:00 PM. This is due to insufficient operating reserve,” the company said in its Twitter post.

Meralco has assured that establishments under the interruptible load program (ILP) are ready with their generator sets, in case a power outage occurs.
Households on the other hand are advised to save energy by turning off and unplugging appliances not in use, avoiding the unnecessary opening of refrigerator doors, and the proper maintenance of electric fans and air conditioning units.
Meralco added that residents of Barangay Parang in Marikina City and in San Mateo, Rizal which have been affected by an emergency line trouble at around 12:26 p.m. of Thursday will have to wait for around three hours before power is restored. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
