Isabela cop shoots soldier in Independence Day bar brawl

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — A 32-year-old Army corporal is in critical condition after being shot by a police staff sergeant following a 12:45 a.m. brawl on Wednesday (June 12) in Alibagu village here, police said.

Cpl Richard Limon, 32, and Staff Sgt. Glenmark Geronimo, 32, were engaged in a fist fight at the parking lot of the Manggahan Grill and Bar when Geronimo drew his gun and fired at the soldier, said Police Col. Mariano Rodriguez, Isabela police director.

Assigned to the 1st Isabela Provincial Mobile Force Company, Geronimo was parking his car when he reacted angrily after Limon repeatedly blew his car horn.

Witnesses claimed they ended up arguing over a female employee of the bar before the dispute turned violent.

Limon was rushed to the Isabela Doctors General Hospital. Geronimo fled the bar, but he surrendered to the Ilagan police. Villamor Visaya Jr. INQ (Editor: Leti Boniol)
