Ex-cop shot dead in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY — A retired police commissioned officer-turned businessman was killed after he was shot by one of the two men on board a motorcycle along Bonifacio Extension in Barangay 4, Silay City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, June 12.

Jose Lindy Chan, a former police captain, was talking to a friend, when the gunman, who was wearing a helmet and riding on a motorcycle, shot him several times.

Chan, 64, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was brought to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City but was declared dead on arrival, said Maj. Rollie Pondevilla, acting Silay police chief.

Nine empty shells of a .45-caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene.

The Silay police found near a box culvert at a subdivision in the village a helmet,  a jacket and a bonnet believed to be owned by the perpetrator.

In July 2016, Chan was wounded in an ambush in Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City.

Pondevilla said that based on initial investigation, Chan, who was engaged in a quarry business, had threats on his life.

Before his retirement from the police service, Chan used to serve as a commander of the PNP Maritime Command station in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. (EditorLeti Boniol)
