BI reshuffles 12 senior officers in 3 airports

MANILA, Philippines — To prevent “fraternization” in the country’s airports, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reshuffled its senior officers assigned at the Bureau’s Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU).

BI Chief Jaime Morente said Wednesday that the move affected 12 senior officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City as well as the airports in Mactan and Iloilo.

“This is just the initial wave of a thorough revamp that we shall implement in our airports in the coming days,” Morente said in a statement.

“We have to shake up the system to prevent stagnation,” he added, noting that the next reshuffle will involve more key officials.

According to Morente, fraternization is one of the “major sources” of corruption in the government.

He added that the officers who were given new assignments have been in their posts for more than two years and it is time to give others a chance to serve at the TCEU.
