MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) Gen. Oscar Albayalde urged the public to honor “modern heroes” as the Philippines celebrates the 121st Independence Day.

“Sa araw na ito, ipinagbubunyi natin hindi lamang ang kagitingan at katapangan ng ating mga bayaning lumaban para makamit ang kalayaan, kundi ng ating mga makabagong bayani na patuloy ring naglilingkod at nag-aalay ng dugo’t pawis para sa kaligtasan, kaayusan at kaunlaran ng ating bayan,” Albayalde said in a speech on Wednesday which was delivered by PNP Deputy Director Gen. Fernando Mendez Jr. at the PNP Headquarters.

Albayalde said modern heroes are soldiers, firefighters, teachers, farmers and metro aides serving the Filipino people.

Albayalde then appealed to the PNP police personnel and officers to continue maintaining the safety and security of the public.
