9 dead, 8 hurt in Davao City road mishap

DAVAO CITY — At least nine persons, including a two-year old child, were confirmed killed when a truck lost its brake along the Diversion Road of Matina Pangi here around 9:30 am on Tuesday, June 11.

The wayward truck rammed through several houses and four vehicles parked by the roadside.

A two-year old boy and his mother last seen standing along the highway, died instantly when they were entombed by sacks of rice coming from the rampaging truck

Of the eight people who were hurt, two were in serious condition, according to Col. Alexander Tagum, Davao City police director.

Police said the 10-wheeler wing van truck  registered under BSBC trucking and loaded with sacks of rice, lost its brake and rammed into several houses and four vehicles parked by the roadside.

The truck came from Panacan area in the north and was running at a high speed towards Matina area.

Tagum has yet to know the identity of the truck driver currently held in the custody of the Talomo police.

Police are also trying to identify the names of the victims. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
