MANILA, Philippines — Police will investigate what’s behind the sale of Chinese flags at the Luneta Park which became viral on social media.
Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde on Monday said he would order the Manila police to conduct the investigation.
“We’ll verify what it really is,” he said.
Photos circulating on social media showed vendors selling the Chinese flags which became viral as the country nears the celebration of its Independence on June 12 and with critics of President Rodrigo Duterte’s pivot to China riding on it.
The National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) later said the photos were staged.
According to NPDC, footage from security cameras showed the vendors had been paid by an unidentified person to sell the flags.
“I don’t know. It could be the work of someone who wants to get media mileage,” Albayalde said.
