6 Chinese nationals arrested for kidnapping compatriots, bribing NBI agents

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested six Chinese nationals for kidnapping their compatriots who owed them P7 million and three others for offering money in exchange for their release.

NBI Deputy Director Vicente de Guzman III identified the three of the arrested Chinese as Junrong Jia, Xuenjian Li, and Quijin Tian, all facing criminal complaints before the Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office for kidnapping and violation of the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998.

The three were arrested last May 31 by agents of the NBI’s Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) at a hotel in Parañaque City and rescued the three Chinese businessmen.

Meanwhile, a bribery complaint has been filed before the Parañaque Prosecutor’s Office against Peter Lim Santos, Wang Liping, and Au Pang Liang.

De Guzman said the three victims were enticed to come to the country to gamble at the casinos and were offered easy access to loan sharks. The victims, however, failed to pay their loans.

The suspects reportedly demanded P7 million from their families in exchange for their release. The families sought the NBI’s help instead, according to De Guzman.

Following the rescue operation, Peter Lim Santos, Wang Liping, and Au Pang Liang surfaced and offered a P1 million bribe to NBI agents for the release of Junrong Jia, Xuejian Li, and Quijin Tian.

The NBI set up an entrapment operation and arrested the three who were caught in possession of a bag full of money amounting to P570,000 inside the office of the CCD chief. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
