Research group cites Sara, fears of populist measures
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is “the lady to watch” in the run-up to the 2022 presidential polls, said New York-based think tank Global Source.
Global Source cited the role of the President’s daughter in forming a coalition of “well-funded” national and local parties under her own party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, that endorsed nine of 12 winning senatorial candidates.
But while the “rousing” support generated by Duterte’s winning candidates could push economic growth, Global Source also expressed fears about populist measures being floated by the government, like federalism and security of tenure for workers.
