MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon grid will be under yellow and red alerts on certain periods this Thursday, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
In a Facebook post, the NGCP announced that Luzon will be placed under yellow alert from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again on 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
A “yellow alert” is raised when “a grid’s reserve power—the difference between supply and demand—is below the required level,” according to the NGCP.
Meanwhile, the NGCP will raise a red alert from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
A “red alert” status is raised when there is a likelihood that demand will outstrip available generating capacity.
The available capacity of the Luzon grid is at 11,393 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is at 11,117 MW, the NGCP said.
“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” it added. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
