Suspected cocaine found in Albay town

LEGAZPI CITY – Another block of suspected cocaine was found by fishermen off the waters of Rapu-Rapu town in Albay, police said Wednesday.

Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of the Bicol police, said Nilo Aguilar, 38, Joy Dungaran, 42, and Joven Cambi, 24, all residents of Barangay Sta. Barbara, found the block trapped in their fishnet near the boundary of Prieto Diaz town in Sorsogon around 11 p.m. on Monday.

Out of curiosity, the fishermen opened the package wrapped in brown packaging tape. Upon finding out that it contained a crystalline powdered substance with an unpleasant smell, they turned it over to the town police around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Calubaquib said the suspected cocaine brick weighing about a kilo, with an estimated street value of P5.6 million, was turned over to the police Crime Laboratory for testing.

On May 17, a block of cocaine weighing around a kilo and estimated to be worth P5.3 million was also found along the shoreline of Barangay Calanaga in the same town.

On May 28, fishermen also recovered 40 blocks of cocaine worth P218 million in the waters off Gubat town in Sorsogon. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
