MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor-elect Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday said he will launch an investigation, once he assumes office, on the “secret dumpsite” and unlicensed piggery that were discovered inside the Baseco compound.

“Once Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and I formally assume office in July, we will immediately conduct a probe into this garbage-filled land and hold erring officials accountable,” Moreno said in  a statement.

This comes after the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) announced that it will file charges against outgoing Mayor Joseph Estrada over the discovered dumpsite that pollutes the 25-kilometer Pasig River.

“When the investigation concludes, we will file necessary charges,” Domagoso said. “This will serve as a stern warning to erring barangay and city officials.”

He added that he will cooperate with the PRRC and other concerned government agencies in rehabilitating the polluted river.

“We are ready to assist the national goverment in cleaning up the river not only to restore its water quality but also to improve urban life,” Domagoso said. (Editor: Jonathan P. Vicente)
