Duterte appoints ex-general Morales into MWSS Board of Trustees

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed retired army general Ricardo “Dick” Morales as board member of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Duterte signed the appointment paper of Morales on May 27 but a copy of which was released only to the media on Tuesday.

Morales replaced MWSS Administrator and Board of Trustees Vice-Chairman Reynaldo Velasco.

He will serve the the unexpired term of Velasco, which is until June 30, 2019.

In a phone interview,  Velasco said he would become the chair of the MWSS Board of Trustees, replacing Franklin Demonteverde.

“I will become chairman,” he said. He added his appointment paper has yet to be released.

Demonteverde, he said, would become a member of the Judicial and Bar Council.

“Demonteverde will become a member of the JBC. He will be promoted also,” he said.

Velasco said Morales would immediately assume his post as member of the board.

“He has to take his oath of office and at the same time, he has to be accepted by the board, the board will be the one to appoint,” he said.

Once he assumes the position of vice chair of the MWSS Board of Trustees, Velasco said Morales would be MWSS administrator. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
