MANILA, Philippines — A 14-year-old girl was killed while 27 others were injured after a truck crashed in Cauayan City, Isabela over the weekend, police said Monday.

A report from the Cauayan City Police identified the fatality as Tina Joy Tejada. She died while being treated at the hospital.

According to police, the Isuzu elf truck was heading to Barangay Linglingay around 2 p.m. Sunday when it suddenly lost its break upon reaching the ascending portion of the road.

Due to overloading, police said the truck instead moved backwards until it crashed.

Five of the passengers were seriously injured while 22 others sustained slight physical injuries. They were admitted to different hospitals in the city, but are now in stable condition, police noted.

The truck, meanwhile, was placed under the custody of the Cauayan City Police, authorities said. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
