MMDA cracks whip on overloaded QC tricycles

MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday apprehended 20 tricycle drivers for overloading their vehicles in Quezon City, MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said, following an inspection in the vicinity of schools.

“We have seen overloaded tricycles going to schools. The safety of the students should be our first priority and must never be compromised,” Lim said in a statement.

The apprehension of the 20 tricycle drivers was in coordination with QC Tricycle Regulatory Unit.

Apart from the overloaded tricycles, more than 80 vehicles were also towed for illegal parking and other violations in the vicinity of Corazon Aquino Elementary School, Batasan Hills National High School and Ramon Magsaysay High School in Cubao.

“We want to see to it that roads are cleared to ensure the safety of the students walking to and from their schools and the unimpeded traffic flow in the opening of classes,” said Lim.

“Our traffic personnel shall intensify enforcement of traffic rules and regulations and clearing obstructions near schools with large number of students,” he added

At least 2,500 traffic personnel have been deployed for the opening of classes all over Metro Manila. /gsg
