Blackout hits Cagayan de Oro as ‘Sendong’ hits N. Mindanao—disaster agencies

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Massive blackout hit Cagayan de Oro as tropical storm “Sendong” slammed Northern Mindanao Friday evening.

The Philippine Coast Guard-North Mindanao District halted all sea travel from the port of Cagayan de Oro as the Office of Civil Defense Region 10 as the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) have begun enforcing preventive evacuation from landslide- prone areas in the hinterland villagers.

Initial reports from said that at least 10 houses from Barangay Lumbia were submerged in water.

The city’s main thoroughfare, C.M. Recto Avenue, was flooded as the Bitan-ag creek overflowed, swamping Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) and stranding hundreds of mallgoers.
