Metro Briefs: May 30, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — Former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay has asked the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division to let him leave for the United States from June 6 to 27 to visit family members.

Binay said he was ready to fully comply with the court’s requirements for him to travel.

Binay faces charges of graft and falsification of public documents over his alleged involvement in the supposedly anomalous procurement process for the P2.2-billion Makati City Hall parking building.

He said he was not a flight risk and that he would return to face his case.

“Accused Binay Jr. fully commits to return to the Philippines by June 27, 2019 and to comply with whatever conditions that may be imposed by the honorable court in the granting of his instant motion,” he said in his pleading. —Patricia Denise M. Chiu
