2 charred bodies found in farflung Cebu village

CEBU CITY — Two charred bodies were found in a vacant lot in Barangay Putat in Tuburan town, north of Cebu on Tuesday morning.

Police Col. Ismael Gauna, the chief of Tuburan Police Station said that around 6 a.m. May 28, concerned citizens called their station to report about the charred bodies.

One of the fatalities was found lying on his side while the other was found slumped face down.

Both were handcuffed.

Gauna said they had difficulty identifying the bodies.

“Sunog talaga yung buong katawan. Di nga namin malaman pa kung ano ang gender,” said Gauna.

(The two bodies are totally charred. We cannot even identify their gender.)

As of this morning, no one from Tuburan or the neighboring towns reported missing persons.

Gauna said the fatalities might not be from Tuburan or from the neighboring towns.

Gains said that based on their initial investigation, the bodies were just dumped on the said vacant lot in Putat.

The vacant lot is at the boundary of Tuburan and Tabuelan towns.

“Papunta ito sa bundok. Malayo talaga,” said Gauna.

The Regional Crime Laboratory in Central Visayas is now processing the victims and the crime scene to find more evidence to identify the bodies.

Gauna urged the public to inform those who have missing family members or friends, to go to Tuburan and check the bodies.

“Nagkuha nadin ng DNA samples sa mga biktima. Parang yun nalang ang paraan na ma identify yung mga katawan,” said Gauna.
