MANILA, Philippines — A female beggar was allegedly stabbed dead by a fellow beggar at the stairs of a Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) station on Monday afternoon.

Police Col. Moises Villaceran Jr., chief of Mandaluyong police, told in a phone interview that a dead woman was found slumped on the stairs of the northbound side of MRT-3 Boni Station around 2:57 p.m. MRT management said station personnel immediately called for medical assistance to bring the body to the nearest hospital.

According to police, investigators consequently discovered a stab wound on the victim’s lower chest.

Villaceran said witnesses saw the victim quarrelling with a male beggar before she was found dead. Police have yet to establish the identity of the victim and the male beggar.

Villaceran said police are reviewing the footage from a closed-circuit television camera placed at the train station as investigation on the incident is still ongoing.

He also said authorities are conducting follow-up operation to locate the male beggar. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
