MANILA, Philippines — A  drug suspect, incidentally known as “demon” or “devil,” was killed Monday after he allegedly engaged a covert policeman to a gun fight during a buy-bust operation in Caloocan City.

A report from the Caloocan City Police revealed the anti-drug sting was launched against the suspect identified only as alias “Ian Demonyo,” said to be 35 to 40 years old, around 1:10 a.m. in Barangay Bagong Silang.

Police said the suspect apparently sensed he was transacting with an undercover police officer that he suddenly drew a caliber .38-pistol and fired at the operative.

Having no other option, police noted, the operative shot back at Demonyo, who was fatally hit.

The suspect was declared dead on arrival at Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital.

Police said they recovered from the crime scene the firearm used by the suspect. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
