College teacher gunned down in Digos
DIGOS CITY, Philippines—Unidentified men on a motorcycle shot dead a part-time teacher at the University of Mindanao Digos College here Thursday, police said Friday.
Senior Police Officer 2 Narciso Saraum, officer on case, said Gleonor Jawate, 28, of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, was walking on Luna Extension to work around 5 p.m. when he was attacked. He died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds in the face and chest.
The killing was the latest in the series of attacks by unidentified men here in recent months.
Early this month, Ariel Laurente, 35, a former employee of the city government, was shot dead by men on a motorcycle.
Superintendent Solomon de Castilla, Digos City police director, did not return calls when sought for comment on concerns that vigilante-style killings, which were frequent here from 2005 until late 2009, had returned to Digos.
