2 brothers drown in Pasig River

MANILA, Philippines — Two brothers drowned on Thursday morning in the Makati City portion of the Pasig River, police said.

Makati Police said the body of Angelo de Guzman, 11, was found floating in the Pasig River along J.P. Rizal St. corner Estrella St. in Barangay Poblacion at about 5:45 a.m.

Members of Makati Search and Rescue team led by Melvin Reyes then responded to the scene and retrieved the boy’s body.

After more than 30 minutes, Makati Police officers found the body of Dave de Guzman, 4, at the portion of the Pasig River in Barangay West Rembo.

Initial investigation showed that Angelo tried to save his brother Dave when he fell into the river. Police however said that Angelo does not know how to swim.

“Magkapatid [sila]. Una nalaglag ang four years old [at] iniligtas ng eleven pero hindi marunong lumangoy,” Maj. Gideon Ines of Makati police station told INQUIRER.net in a text message. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
