2 men nabbed for gun, shabu in North Cotabato
COTABATO CITY — Police arrested two men for possession of a gun and illegal drugs at a checkpoint implementing the election gun ban in Kabacan, North Cotabato province on Tuesday, May 21, police said Wednesday.
Police Major Realan Mamon, Kabacan town police chief, said the protrusion at the waist of Basser Solaiman, 32, a farmer, caught the attention of police officers at the Malandague community police action center at past 5 p.m.on Tuesday.
When accosted, Solaiman yielded a caliber .45 pistol with 10 bullets but could not present the necessary documents.
His companion, Tato Salamat, 19, was also arrested for possession of two sachets of suspected shabu (crystal meth).
Mamon said the suspects were on board a motorcycle driven by Salamat heading to the town center. They came from Barangay Bualan of Kabacan, where they live.
The suspects, now detained at the Kabacan police detention cell, will be charged for violations of the election gun ban, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and illegal possession of prohibited drugs. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
