Grace Poe ready to lead Senate blue ribbon panel

MANILA, Philippines — Independent Senator Grace Poe has expressed readiness to lead the Senate blue ribbon committee should Senator Richard Gordon decides to relinquish his chairmanship.

Gordon currently chairs the blue ribbon committee.

At present, Poe chairs the Senate committee on public services, and public information and mass media.

But when asked in an interview on Wednesday if she was also open to lead the blue ribbon panel, Poe first pointed out that this would only happen if Gordon would let go of its chairmanship.

“Mayroong equity of the incumbent, so ‘yan ay mangyayari lamang kung papayag si Senator Gordon,” she said. “Maganda sana, gusto ko rin ‘yon, pero nasa kanya ‘yon; pero sa tingin ko, hindi pa natin malalaman ngayon.”

It would be good, she said, if the blue ribbon would be handled by an independent chairperson though she quickly recognized Gordon’s good work.

Poe said she would still keep  the chairmanship of the committee on public services unless Gordon decides to let go of the blue ribbon.

But would she prefer to chair the blue ribbon or the public services?

Poe said: “Ayoko na lang sabihin, pero siyempre ‘yun ay maganda rin.”

Poe, who ranked second in the senatorial race,  was among the five of seven reelectionist senators, who made a successful comeback in the Senate.

The four others are Senators Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara, Koko Pimentel and Nancy Binay.

Senators JV Ejercito and Bam Aquino, on the other hand, failed to make it to the Magic 12. They will continue to serve as senators only until June 30 this year.  (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
