MANILA, Philippines –- Three hundred twenty-six incidents of car thefts were recorded in 2018 which is lower as compared to the 432 reported incidents in 2017, the Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said on Wednesday.
“Compared to 2017, 432 tapos ngayon 326 so bumaba tayo reports sa motorcycle, vehicle [theft],” PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Roberto Fajardo told reporters in an ambush interview at Camp Crame.
Fajardo said most incidents of vehicle thefts happened in Metro Manila, Region 4A and Region 3. Police said most of the stolen vehicles were sports utility vehicles and vans.
Meanwhile, Fajardo said the number of car theft incidents dropped as the police already has a matrix that identifies the masterminds and financiers involved in the car thefts.
“Bumaba tayo ng mga carnapping incidents because na-identify na natin yung mga mastermind, mga financier and meron na tayong mga matrix about dito sa mga target natin,” Fajardo said. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
