MANILA, Philippines (Updated May 27, 2019 @ 1:00 p.m.) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy around 120,000 police officers to secure the opening of classes and those participating in this year’s Brigada Eskwela.
PNP chief Police General Oscar Albayalde said the PNP will set up police assistance desks in different schools as teachers, students, parents, and other groups take part in the general cleaning of schools nationwide that started on Monday.
“Usually ang ginagawa natin diyan is of course parang election duties ‘yan. We have people in different schools. Meron tayong deployment sa iba’t ibang eskwelahan,” he said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.
(Usually we also perform duties as in the elections. We have deployment in different schools.)
Police officers, however, will not participate in the cleaning activities unless requested by school administrators.
After the midterm polls, Albayalde said the PNP is now focusing on setting up plans to secure the public for the opening of classes in some schools this June.
He said he has issued operational guidelines for the Ligtas Balik-Eskwela 2019, directing all police regional offices and national support units of the PNP to perform tasks and coordinate instructions to implement the nationwide and public security plans.
Albayalde said the guidelines also aim to ensure the availability and readiness of PNP units for safety operations in support of the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
