Secondary school set to open in Ormoc City

ORMOC CITY, Philippines–A secondary school is set to open in Barangay Salvacion of this city soon.

Dr. Manny Albaño, city schools division superintendent, announced during the opening of the Brigada Eskwela 2019, that the city council has already approved the creation of a high school in the barangay last year and that he is hoping that it will serve residents of the barangay and its neighboring villages.

Albaño said he’s happy that the Ayuyaw family donated 4 hectares of their land where the school will be built.

Aside from the secondary school that will open in the barangay, he said an Agro-Industrial School is also set to open in the same site.

He said the Department of Education has a curriculum for an agro-industrial school and this will be used for the junior high school whose focus will be on agriculture.

Newly-elected Councilor Jasper Lucero, who represented the local government unit during the kickoff, said there is a need to open an agro-industrial school in the city because the number of people that indulge in agriculture is getting fewer.

“If this problem continues, the food security of our city will be threatened because who else will plant?” he said.

The Brigada Eskwela 2019 formally kicked off today with a caravan from the Ormoc City Division Office going to the Salvacion Elementary School.
