Lapu school offers free skills training
An aeronautical school in Lapu-Lapu City is offering free skills training courses.
Roque Yburan, 57, a municipal councilor of Cordova, is one of the enrollees of the free skills training program offered by Philippine State College of Aeronautics (Philsca), which is based in Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase.
He said he was very excited to learn the basics of computer use.
The courses offered are practical electricity, radio repair, welding, basic computer and noodle making.
Each course will run for ten days at a gymnasium in barangay Day-as.
Philsca will field at least 10 teachers for the training. It will also shoulder all the expenses for the training as part of their social responsibility.

“I’m so grateful for those people helping the less fortunate who cannot afford the expensive fees in the training school, thanks to Philsca and its leaders who came up with this great idea. I know this (program) will open doors to job opportunities for my constituents, especially when the airport will be erected here,” said the mayor.
Day-as barangay captain Rosa Maria Suan and her sister Raquel Barioquinto, a barangay administrator of Day-as, also enrolled in the program.
“This is a big help to us, especially the out-of-school youth. Some mothers here are also excited to learn noodle making. And for me, I wanted to know more about the computer,” said Suan.
Dr. Nonadel Soriano, Philsca campus director, said they would continue this social responsibility if proven successful.
“We allotted budget for this purpose. We hope the students can finish the course and be productive with the skills they learned,” Soriano added. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
