Worker arrested for stealing ‘liempo’ in Batangas
MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested on Saturday for stealing pork belly, or “liempo,” from a roasted meat store in Balete town in Batangas, police reported on Sunday.
On Sunday, the Balete Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the suspect as 27-year old Regie Gianan, an employee of an Andok’s stall.
Gianan bought 10 kilograms of liempo from the stall in Barangay Malabanan in Balete.
He then allegedly altered the receipt, changing the amount of meat to 100 kg, so he could bring home 90 kg more meat.
The guard, however, inspected the receipt and noticed the alteration. He then reported the incident to the police at around 1 p.m.
Police officers arrested Gianan at around 4:45 p.m and detained him at the Balete MPS pending the filing of a case of qualified theft, Patrolman Edmund Falcon told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.
