2 pedestrians dead, 1 hurt in Quezon highway accidents

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – Two pedestrians were killed and another was hurt in two separate road accidents in Lopez and Calauag towns in Quezon province Saturday night, police said.

Estilita de Luna, 70, and Nemia Vejerano, 73, were bumped by a speeding motorcycle driven by Roy Afarin while they were crossing the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Vinas, Calauag, at about 9 p.m., a report from the Quezon police office said Sunday.

Both women suffered serious injuries but Vejerano died while being taken to Magsaysay Memorial District Hospital in nearby Lopez town.

Police said Afarin himself reported the incident to the police.

In Lopez, Michael Bryan Tabuga, 24, was hit by a Bicol-bound van while he was crossing the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Canda Ilaya at about 9:30 p.m.

The severely injured victim was taken to the Magsaysay Memorial District Hospital but died along the way.
