May 19: Fertility Dance

Last day of the annual fertility rites, where devotees dance on the streets of Obando in Bulacan province in honor of three different saints in a bid to have children, a good spouse or a good harvest or income.

Santa Clara is the saint to whom a woman prays in order to have a daughter, as well as a faithful spouse.

San Pascual Baylon is the patron saint whom Christian women implore when they want to have sons, while Our Lady of Salambao grants good harvest to local fisherfolk.

May 19 to 22: Manggahan Festival

The capital town of Jordan in Guimaras province celebrates its main product, mangoes.

This year’s theme is: “Matam-is nga Kadalag-an: Manggahan Festival to the World (Sweet Victory: Manggahan Festival to the World).”

There will be a cultural presentation, street dance battle, color fun run and a “mango eat-all-you-can” activity.

May 22 to 24: Ammungan Festival

The culture and traditions of indigenous peoples in Nueva Vizcaya province take center stage in Ammungan (gathering) Festival.

The event also celebrates the founding anniversary of Nueva Vizcaya on May 24.

Activities include a job fair, arts and music festival, landscaping contest and agri-trade fair.
