Municipal gov’t human resource officer shot dead in Apayao

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines —- The human resource officer of the Flora municipal government in Apayao province was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday (May 17).

Catherine Beltran Ortega, 57, had left her office in a car that was bound for her home when she was attacked and was shot in the head, said Chief Master Sergeant Efren Pelayo, Flora police chief.


Ortega’s relatives said she has no known enemies.

Investigators are looking into the victim’s personal and work background for leads that may help solve the case.  (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
