HOPING TO generate funds for its student scholars, the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Alumni Association Inc. is staging the Alumni and Friends Fun Run 2012 on Feb. 11, 2012.
The event was officially launched yesterday and was attended by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.
Joining Rama were the group’s president James Yu, race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE) and the chairman of the alumni association Charles Bayloses.
The race will have 3-kilometer, 6k and 12k categories. The race begins at the USPF campus and the route will pass through Banilad Road going to Talamban and Cabancalan in Mandaue City and vice versa.
“We are holding this race because we want to help those deserving less fortunate students. We want them to fulfill their dreams in life,” said Yu. The alumni association has two scholars and they are planning to add one.
Showing his strong support to his Alma Mater, Mayor Rama said he sent invitation letters to big companies in Cebu to join the running event. He is also set to join the race.
More than P50,000 worth of cash prizes will be given away to the top 10 winners in each category for both male and female runners.
The registration fee for the running event is pegged at P250 for students and P300 for regular runners. Registration can be done at the USPF campuses in barangay Lahug and Mabini Street or at the Chris Sports branches at the Ayala Center Cebu and SM City Cebu. CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
