TACLOBAN CITY — The younger sister of popular TV talk show host Boy Abunda has been elected congresswoman of the lone district of Eastern Samar.
Outgoing Mayor Ma. Fe Abunda of Borongan City became the first woman to be elected Eastern Samar representative after defeating Guiuan Mayor Christopher Sheen Gonzales.
Abunda got 93,105 votes and Gonzales, 86,330 votes.
Abunda will succeed Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone who was elected governor, defeating his erstwhile ally, incumbent Governor Marcelo Ferdinand Picardal by more than 31,000 votes.
Evardone obtained 129,655 votes while Picardal got 98,054 votes. Both Evardone and Abunda ran under the administration’s PDP-Laban. (Editor: Leti Z. Boniol)
