Oil leak contained in Zambales shoreline, DENR exec says
BOTOLAN, Zambales — Local environment officials assured the public that the oil dispersed by a foreign dredging vessel in a portion of the shoreline here was immediately contained.
Clean-up operations ended on Wednesday after the oil leak was contained at Barangay Bangan here, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Raymond Rivera said.
Rivera said the leak was discovered on May 8 from a dredger registered in the Republic of Tanzania.
“The leak was near the Bucao River where dredging activities were being planned,” said Rivera, noting that it was of “small amount.”
On Thursday, personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Philippine Coast Guard and other concerned agencies inspected the vessel. Joanna Rose Aglibot
