Nancy Binay: Dad’s loss a shock

/ 05:16 AM May 17, 2019

Sen. Nancy Binay has asked people to stop sowing intrigue between her feuding family members following a report that her brother, Junjun, abandoned their father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, leading to the latter’s loss in the congressional race.

“We never dropped him. You saw in the proclamation rally, in our mini rallies, in our meeting de avance; my dad and I had a video. My brother had posters made showing him and my dad, so there’s no truth that my brother dropped him,” Nancy told reporters at the Senate.

She noted that the candidates on Junjun’s slate were “wiped out,” but in the district of their sister, incumbent Makati Mayor Abby Binay, everyone on her team won, except their dad.

“So who dropped whom?” she said, adding that their father’s loss was a shock to them. The Binay patriarch was on Abby’s Team Performance.

Junjun had run against his sister Abby in the race for Makati mayor, a move that further fueled bad blood between them.

During the campaign, their father publicly supported Abby while the rest of the family, including Nancy, backed Junjun. In the end, Abby prevailed over her brother, securing a second term as mayor.

“My appeal is to give us space, give us time to fix things between us. The elections are over, but they don’t want to stop the intrigues aimed at our family members,” Nancy said.
