Chinese, Korean, Pinoy nabbed for bogus US dollar bills

MANILA, Philippines – Two foreigners and a Filipino were arrested in Pasay City on Thursday for possession of counterfeit US dollar bills amounting to $288,700.

The Pasay City police arrested Korean national Song Ho Sang, 53; Chinese national Tiange Wu, 31 and Fernando Silanga, 44 in a casino-hotel complex.

Initial investigation showed that suspects tried to use the counterfeit dollar bills to buy casino chips worth P15 million.

Alert casino personnel, however, detected the bogus bills and sought police assistance.

Follow-up operations have also been launched to collar to supposed source of the counterfeit bills, a Korean national.

The arrested suspects are now under police custody and will be charged with estafa and violation of Article 168 of Revised Penal Code or illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes.  (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
