MANILA, Philippines — With the phase of the ongoing canvassing of votes in the May 13 election, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the winners of the Senate and party-list race may be announced this week.
Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez announced this Thursday as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) continue the canvassing votes from polling precincts nationwide and posts abroad.
“Ang estimate is malalaman natin within the week kung sino (ang mga nanalo) (The estimate is we will know the winners this week),” Jimenez said in a press briefing.
As of Thursday, Comelec, sitting as the NBOC, has so far canvassed 89 Certificate of Canvass (COCs) or 53.29 percent of the total 167 COCs.

However, the poll official has yet to announce the proclamation date of the poll winners.
“Dalawang magkahiwalay na bagay kasi ‘yung malaman mo kung sino ‘yung nanalo at saka ‘yung formal proclamation. So hindi ko lang masabi kung ano ‘yung date ng proclamation (It’s one thing to know who the winners are and another thing to set the date of the proclamation),” he said. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
Earlier, Jimenez said they are eyeing to proclaim poll winners “roughly within two weeks” after the elections.
