CITY OF CALAPAN – A new governor was proclaimed for Oriental Mindoro province on Thursday after the canvassing of votes for the midterm elections.
Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor (PDPLBN) was proclaimed governor around 8 a.m. Thursday. He defeated outgoing second district congressman Reynaldo Umali and Rodolfo Valencia (LAKAS), a former Governor and Congressman.
Dolor garnered 213,312 votes while Umali has 117,617 votes and Valencia got 30,923.
Dolor won by a big margin, getting support from the millennial voters, including motor riders province-wide who went on the road showing their support a few days before elections.
Dolor is three-termer (outgoing) vice governor. He started young in politics as chairperson of the Sangguniang Kabataan.
Umali, who chaired the House Committee on Justice during his last term in Congress, was at the helm of the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno in 2017.
Comelec also proclaimed reelectionist Doy Leachon (PDPLBN) as Oriental Mindoro’s first district representative Thursday morning.

Leachon garnered 114,552 votes, defeating his rival Malou Morillo, who got 89,655 votes.
Comelec also proclaimed reelectionist Calapan city mayor Arnan Panaligan (PDPLBN) around 4 a.m. Thursday.
Unopposed, Panaligan garnered 55,544 votes. Panaligan had served as governor of Oriental Mindoro province. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
