MANILA, Philippines – Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday vowed to remain independent and represent the interests of the people as she is set to be reelected after ranking second in the partial unofficial quick count results of the May 13 midterm elections.

With 96.34 percent of vote counting machines already transmitting election data, Poe is currently in second spot with 21,607,707 votes, according to Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) transparency server.

Poe also placed second in the first batch of partial and official results from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), trailing her fellow reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar.

Poe noted that she ran “an independent campaign, no political party, few organized groups, (and) without a deep well of resources.”

“When we step on the halls of the Senate anew and face the people, we shall carry nothing but their interest and well-being,” Poe said in a statement Wednesday.

“We vow to remain independent, discerning and equitable, bearing in mind and heart that we owe the people our position,” she added.

Poe also expressed her gratitude to those who helped her during the 90-day campaign period.

“Our win is a triumph of independence for the Filipino people who stood by our side. Our sincerest gratitude for the overwhelming mandate,” she said. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
